Privacy.
We sell t-shirts about hotels. We are not in the data business, and we don't sell your information to anyone.
This covers thereallobbytalk.com, including the Hotel Humor gift shop at /shop. It describes what we actually collect, which is less than you might expect, and names every company that touches it.
What we collect
When you buy something
Your name, email address, shipping address, and what you ordered. We need the address to mail you a shirt and the email to tell you it's coming.
We never see your card number. Payment happens entirely on Stripe's hosted checkout page. Your card details go to Stripe, not to us — we only get back a confirmation that payment succeeded, plus the last four digits and card brand on the receipt.
When you sign up for the newsletter
Your email address, and which page you signed up from. That's it.
When you email us or use a form
Whatever you put in it — typically your name, email, and message.
When you just browse
Standard analytics: pages viewed, rough location by region, device and browser type, and how you got here. This is aggregated and we use it to figure out which jokes land.
Who processes it
We're a two-person operation, so we rely on established services rather than running our own infrastructure. Each of these receives some of your data in order to do its job:
- Stripe — payment processing and checkout. Receives your payment details, email, and shipping address. Stripe is the only party that sees your card.
- Printful — printing and fulfillment. Receives your name, shipping address, email, and order contents so it can make and mail your order.
- Resend — transactional email. Sends your order confirmation and shipping notification.
- MailerLite — newsletter. Holds your email address only if you signed up for the list.
- Google Analytics 4, via Google Tag Manager — site analytics.
- Cloudflare — hosting and content delivery, including standard server logs and IP-based abuse prevention.
We don't run advertising pixels. There is no Meta, TikTok, or Pinterest tracking on this site.
What we store in your browser
The shop keeps a few things in your browser's local storage. These stay on your device and are never sent to us as a profile:
- lt-cart-v1 — your cart, so it survives a refresh.
- lt-recent-v1 — the last dozen products you looked at, for the "recently viewed" row.
- lt-exit-shown — remembers we already showed you the exit prompt once, so we don't do it again.
You can clear all of it any time by clearing site data in your browser. The shop will forget your cart and carry on.
Google Analytics sets its own cookies. If you'd rather it didn't, browser-level tracking protection or an ad blocker will stop it, and the site works fine without it.
How long we keep things
Order records are kept as long as we need them for support, warranty replacements, and tax records — generally several years, since that's what tax authorities expect. Newsletter subscriptions last until you unsubscribe. Analytics data follows Google's retention settings.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe — every newsletter has a link at the bottom. One click, no negotiation.
- Ask what we have — email us and we'll tell you.
- Ask us to delete it — email us and we'll delete what we're not legally required to retain. We can't delete records Stripe must keep for financial compliance.
- Correct something — if an address or name is wrong, tell us.
If you're a California resident, the CCPA gives you these rights explicitly, including the right not to be discriminated against for using them. We don't sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there's nothing for you to opt out of on that front. Either way, the way to exercise any of this is the same: email us.
Children
This site isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Card data never touches our servers. That said, no method of transmission over the internet is perfectly secure, and we won't pretend otherwise.
Changes
If we change this, we'll update the date at the top. Material changes get a note in the newsletter.
